Global Sports, Inc. (NASDAQ: GSPT), a leading outsource solution provider for e-commerce, today announced the change of the company’s corporate name to GSI Commerce, Inc., after receiving stockholder approval at the company’s annual meeting held earlier today. In conjunction with the approval of the new corporate name, GSI Commerce will also change its symbol on the NASDAQ Stock Market to “GSIC” effective May 24, 2002.
In 1998 Global Sports' management decided to launch a new e-commerce initiative and divest the two other divisions of the company. In late-1999 and mid-2000, GSI Commerce divested its historical businesses in order to focus solely on its e-commerce venture. In May 2002, Global Sports, Inc. changed its name to GSI Commerce, Inc. to reflect its expansion beyond e-commerce sporting goods.
GSI Commerce is a leading outsource solution provider for e-commerce. The company develops and operates e-commerce businesses for retailers, branded manufacturers, media companies, television networks and professional sports organizations. The GSI Commerce platform includes Web site design and development, e-commerce technology, customer service, fulfillment, merchandising, content development and management, and online and database marketing.
